R. John Salm D.P.M., F.A.C.F.A.S.

Dr. Salm received his Bachelor of Science in Biology degree from the University of Western Ontario and his Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine at the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine. Dr. Salm completed an intensive 2 year surgical residency at Fountain Valley Regional Hospital in southern California.

A Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons and Board Certified in Foot Surgery, Dr. Salm is also a member of the Florida Podiatric Medical Association. Dr. Salm has practiced over 25 years and is an active member of the Naples community. He takes pride in personable quality medical care and is always at the forefront of new technology in his field.

Therese M. Hixon D.P.M., F.A.C.F.A.S.

Dr. Hixon is a proud local graduate from Lely High School who furthered her education at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida. She then went onto Barry University in Miami, Florida where she received her Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine. Her post graduate training included an intense two year surgical residency at Parkway Regional Medical Center in North Miami, Florida. Dr. Hixon then decided to make her way back home to Naples and has been practicing with the Foot and Ankle Management Group for over 20 years.

Board Certified by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery and Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons, Dr. Hixon is also a member of the American Association for Women’s Podiatrists.

Cliff Burmeister, DPM, DABPM, FACFAS

Dr. Cliff Burmeister was raised in Jacksonville, FL and is a proud native Floridian. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences from the University of South Florida in Tampa, FL. He received his Masters of Biomedical Sciences and Doctorate Degree from Barry University School of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery. Dr. Burmeister then completed a 3 year, Foot and Ankle Surgical Residency with added credentials in rearfoot and ankle reconstruction from Bethesda Hospital in Boynton Beach, FL. He served as Chief Resident in 2014-2015.

He is double board certified in Foot and Ankle Reconstructive Surgery, Podiatric Medicine, and Surgeries of the lower extremity. The certifications are held in two different organizations, including the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons, and the American Board of Podiatric Medicine.

As a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons, he specializes in foot and ankle surgical reconstruction, revision surgery and Minimally Invasive Foot and Ankle Surgery. While specializing in surgical treatments of the lower extremity, Dr. Burmeister still enjoys compassionate, palliative care for common ailments of the foot and ankle. He is consistently recognized by his medical peers as “Naples Top Doc” and is well known for his caring and attentive demeanor.

Katie Backstrand, D.P.M.

Dr. Backstrand is a native Southwest Floridian, born and raised in Fort Myers. She attended the University of Florida, majoring in Nutritional Sciences and obtained her Doctorate from Barry University School of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery. Dr. Backstrand completed a vigorous 3-year surgical residency at HCA Florida Northwest Hospital in Margate, FL and served as Chief Resident in her final year. Throughout her training, Dr. Backstrand performed over 1,000 procedures and is credentialed in forefoot, rearfoot, and ankle reconstructive surgery.

Dr. Backstrand is a well-rounded podiatrist that treats all conditions of the foot and ankle, both surgically and conservatively. Dr Backstrand is board qualified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery and treats injuries, deformities, and diseases of the foot and ankle including elective surgery, trauma, sports medicine, internal and external fixation, arthroscopy, diabetic wound care, limb salvage, and reconstructive surgery. Dr. Backstrand and her husband enjoy Gator football games, Miami Heat basketball, fishing, traveling, and spending time with family. Dr. Backstrand is a personable doctor who is committed to providing her patients with the utmost compassionate care.

Dr. McManus, D.P.M.

Dr. McManus is a fellowship-trained foot and ankle surgeon, born and raised in Melbourne, FL. He completed an ACFAS-accredited surgical fellowship in Sarasota under the direction of Dr. James Cottom, where he gained extensive experience in total ankle replacement, arthroscopy, sports medicine, and complex elective reconstruction.

Dr. McManus completed an intensive three-year surgical residency at the University of Louisville Hospital, a level 1 trauma center, where he served as Chief Resident and performed over 1,900 procedures. His training included extensive experience in orthopedic foot and ankle surgery, trauma, advanced wound care, and plastic and reconstructive surgery.

He earned his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine and MBA from Barry University, graduating near the top of his class with honors, and holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Tulane University. Dr. McManus is board qualified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery and is an active member of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons and Florida Podiatric Medical Association.

Dr. McManus has contributed to multiple research publications and presented on the state and national levels, with a focus on total ankle replacement, forefoot and hindfoot reconstruction, and innovative surgical techniques. He takes a personalized approach to patient care, tailoring treatment plans to each patient with a focus on conservative and regenerative options, while utilizing advanced surgical techniques when appropriate. He is committed to providing evidence-based care to help patients return to an active South Florida lifestyle as quickly and safely as possible.

Outside of the office, Dr. McManus enjoys fishing, scuba diving, exercising and spending time in the woods or on the water with his dogs and family.
